At some point in the past, I registered on camelsmokes.com for some of their promotional stuff. Most often, it's buy one get one coupons, but on occasion ( why I registered) it's free 'zippos' or cigarette cases, so on, so forth. Today, I got this in the mail:

I set that penny in the middle for size comparison. Lots of boxes that are waxy and look pretty and don't say very much at all, all inside one another. Yes, it looks nice, but my problem is that they used all that packaging, paper, ink, plastic, so on, to give me this:

Once again placed next to a penny for size comparison.
This says a few things about Camel...
They ( of course) have massive amounts of money, so much that they can both waste all this money promotion advertisements, a s well as give away free packs of cigarettes ( the coupon is for buy one get one, i blurred the picture in case the promo codes were overly important etc etc)

The weird thing is, smoking is addictive, as I know very well, but these promotionals are only going to Camel Smokers, they're not mailed randomly, you have to actually sign up for them, even prove that you're 18. So, they're spending all of this money on people that already use and are addicted to their product. I don't understand this. Sure, it's a nice way of saying thanks, but I would rather just get 3 of those coupons instead of one and 2 packs cost worth of packaging and shipping....
Bah.

A quick plug...

I just wanted to give a quick plug for PostSecret. *( check the bottom, I'm going to start adding footers instead of making all of my off beat explanations and such)
I think what they've taken the time to do is pretty amazing, because a lot of people out there face problems that they think no one relates with. Post Secret doesn't always help the individual who send the post cards as much as the people who send the post cards help a lot of other people. Knowing that someone else deals with the same problems as you is rather comforting in the long run. You may think you're the only one that has something to hide from the world, but in reality, you are not.
The secrets posted are often vague enough that you can relate them to your own personal problems.
One of this sunday's secrets:

While some of us may not be in college, we have all be in some sort of everyday thing that taxes our minds or bodies or both, rather it be a relationship or just life at home, or hell, life in general. There are a lot of things that are killing us all, and it's not always the good times.

Anyway, that's my small plug for PostSecret.
You all should go and read some of the cards, and send in your own, everyone's got one. I'm working on one myself.

One last thought:
Give me some more ideas please. I feel like Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs...
anyways, lucid dreams to all.
G'night.

*On PostSecret.com, anonymous people mail in home-made post cards with one of their secrets on it, not all of them are posted of course, but the ones that are there are generally heart felt, and someone, someone if reading your secret if you send it in, and that has to make you feel at least a little bit better. Most people sort of follow the idea that every time someone dies, someone is born. This is widely untrue, and many of you know inside, I mean, there are more people alive today than have ever died. This seems crazy, but it's true, and well be fore another decade or so I believe.

Something I do believe:

Things like life and death or happiness and destruction put their opposites in perspective, as most things do in comparison.
Sometimes, they put them both in perspective and focus the intensity of the emotion involved.

This is very hard blog for me to write without getting personal things in to it...

Simply put, you can stand whiteness to the birth of a child, a glorious occasion when it gets down to it ( and the parents are suitable for it) and in the same day get kicked just as hard an low as you have in the past, and fall just as hard or harder.
These are the days that eventually, everyone will learn to loathe. Sometimes it's hard to stay grateful for the good things that come along in a day that ends in over all dismay.

This post has little actual thought provoking matter and I am aware of this, but once again, I am starved for topics.
So please...
Do what you do best...

and tell me why it still had it's faults.

Views...

I've noticed that more people are looking at the world through a microscope, when really they should be using it to look in to themselves before they try to decipher the world.

Now, of course I understand a lot of the outer world accounts for what you discover about yourself on the inside, and a lot of that may even come from places that don't really have a definite place, but exist mainly in mind.

Once you find out who you are with some serious certainty, then you can learn to become much more concerned with your own issues than the pointless drama and misguided 'truths' found in the everyday life.

I left this post short an vague intentionally. ( maybe offensive to some, comments more than welcome)

I try to keep this blog written with general ideas and the smallest amount of personal influence possible, I've slipped in before that I'm a vegetarian, and that sort of thing, but I stray from giving you my reasons, because yours are yours and mine are mine. Religion is a little different because it can vary so much within each sect from person to person. Also, religion is something you live day to day and believe constantly. It effect and affects everything you do and feel.

I do not believe in God, of any sort. If there is indeed a god out there, I am happy to go to hell for not believing. I would rather life my life the way i want to instead of by " the book".
I am a humanist. [if you don't know what that means]
and that's a lot more than a lot of Christians can honestly say.

This entry could very well go on forever because of my knowledge and depth in many of the things I'm going to touch on, but I'll do my best to touch on them briefly here, if you would like me to expand on them, please request it in a comment and I will be happy to make a post specifically for you.

A lot of Christians ( and i speak about Christians because I'm surrounded by them in GA and they're the easiest for me to make fun of) say they're one thing and act another, a lot of them wear WWJD bracelets and never stop to actually think about it. A lot say how often they go to church ( with their friends) and how close they feel to god, but are bastards just as obsequious as the next person.
Now, lying is a sin, living a lie has to be something completely different.

Although, it's not right to hate a religion for it's followers. ( while some of them may be pretty horrid [ video link] ). There have been countless horrible things committed in the name of god, if god exists, and i where him, i would stop this insanity, as well as the insanity of the Crusades and every other religious war.
People also claim to see god or jesus in all sorts of things, tortillas, pancakes and water stains to mirrored wood grain ( no joke!) which is insanity. Touch with religion isn't something to be shouted from the mountain tops unless that's what you're instructed to do. Do Tibetans get on the news for meeting Gandhi? no. They're humbled by the situation at hand, they don't want face time with the press because of it.

What to do!

Lets start with some of the more important things from the bible:
1.) Noah's ark
the length given by god in noah's dream was 300 cubits, a cubit is from your elbow to finger top, on average, a foot and a half. A wooden boat this large would not hold it's shape in the water, covered in pitch or not.
All the animals... for noah to have collected a pair of all the animals in the world at the time in seven days, he would've had to have collected about 50 animal per second.
now, there are other references to "clean" animals, and "dirty" animals, which were different religions names more or less stating if they were good for sacrifice to the lord. If you use this smaller reference words, then he would be down to something like 570 animals in the 7 day period.

The flood. Not only would noah have drown from such a high moisture content in the air alone, his bones would've been crushed by the pressure change. Also, there would have had to have been 5 times as much water as there is now, we've only gained water since then ( through meteors, loosing a little urine and food waste in space, we're still victors)

Some think that i meteor made from ice came down and brought the water, this does happen, but for something that large to hit the earth, it would disrupt the entire hemisphere on impact, not to mention that as soon as it hit the atmosphere it would create such a large explosion, it would raise the atmosphere's temperature some 120000 degrees F ( hotter than the sun i believe) killing everything left, and flashing into steam the top several feet of water already cesspooled.

These are all facts, i'm done with Noah though...

2.) Evolution is still going on, right now, it's been proven in all sorts of animals, no, there is no man/ape middle ground fossil yet, and there may never be, but you can not deny evolution all together with the evidence we have now.

3.) jesus didn't die from being nailed to the cross, or stabbed, with his arms nailed as they were (through the wrists, not hands, hands would've ripped out) he would've suffocated in mere hours, not days.

4.) Joseph and Mary mostly had kids after Jesus, even if you want to say he was a immaculately conceived miracle. Joseph and Mary were married, you don't get married and just not have kids, and at the time, if you had sex, you more or less planned on having another kid.

5.) Most religious stories were written in other books before the existence of the bible, i don't have any online resources to pull this from this time, mainly because their are so many, but it's true, trust me on this one.

There are so many more things!
I'm just going to stop while I'm ahead and let the rest go to you, the reader.
Comment with something else you'd like to hear about.

You are you own person you create your future your past, and your present.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://furiousgeorge160.blogspot.com/2007/12/religion-maybe-offensive-to-some.html' title='Religion... Many comedians have pointed these things out before " I want that disease... the one where i get to go rock climbing with a hot chick and a puppy... i want that!"
And it's true! They're not marketing the disease though, they're marketing the cure. This product will make you feel so much better than you do now, you'll do these things. It's insanity!

Universities have done studies about the effects that colors have on emotion, two of the colors I'd like to point out and effects I'd like to point out:
Red and yellow have both been shown to induce hunger.

Now, these two are the best i could think of to represent this in picture form, seeing as the bulk of these labels are indeed red and yellow, but they're not the only ones, Chik-fil-a, sonic, KFC, burger king, papa John's, Pizza hut.... and many more I'm sure.
Make me hungry just thinking about it.

Pay Attention to the world around you, you are apart of it, just like everyone else.

Food....

I would first like to say that I am a vegetarian, so this disappoints and disgusts me doubly.

A certain company states that " 1 of 4 steaks are as good as they could be"
Their solution to this is cloning. They want to find an extra delicious set of cows, and clone them, make all the cows taste the same, equally tasty. They also want to do this for pigs(for pork chops) and probably other animals as well...

The FDA has already approved this process for the general public. I'm sure it will take years before the whole thing is in full swing, but none the less, it is going to be the future of at least a large portion of our meat.

Already most of our poultry ( stored in huge buildings with thousands of others, destroying their pecking order and more or less " stressing" them...) are pumped full of hormones to make them grow larger, faster. Their hearts are already pumping so fast that if you clapped your hands loud enough or fired a gun into the air, the large majority would have heart attacks. Now, a lot of the information sent out by companies like PETA is over glorified and all that, so I'm not going to repeat it all to you, if you're curious about the truth ( and it is the truth) then you can look it up yourself.

Am I the only one that finds this sickening?
That ham and cheese sandwich is looking more and more like a science experiment.

Excuses...

As you may or may not know, people use a very pathetic surplus of excuses.

I read an article in the AJC about how the average person "lies" twice in a five minute conversation. It also said that without lies, life wouldn't run as smoothly, which is true.
Their example was something like If a coworker ask you how you're doing, your natural response is to say " fine" or " I'm doing alright" because if you told the truth and went into detail it would disrupt the flow of things
Now, I understand their point, but i don't think it's all that true, although it mostly depends on the people you have to interact with. Personally, if someone asks how I'm doing I say " alive" or tell them how I'm doing apart from homeostasis. This does indeed interrupt the flow of most social groups, so functionally speaking, the article was perfectly true.

These lies are tolerated by society completely, but i believe it is only because we are so used to hearing them on a daily basis. I hear excuses from a lot of people for all sorts of things, most of the time they're passed off by everyone else and often supported by other people.... with more lies, oddly enough.
" Sorry, i forgot to do my homework, my antibiotics have been screwing me up"
" Oh yeah, they can really mess with you"

I mean, wtf? ya know?

People will always look for the easiest way out of any situation. That's not how life works.
I should say that most people look for the easiest way out, some are overly stubborn in select situations and refuse to admit any fault in the first place ( self preservation). What those people need to learn to do is: Stop. Think about what they're saying, how the situation really pans out.

To make this post a lot shorter than my previous ones,

Excuses are fucking lame.
You do everything for a reason
and if you're so impulsive that you can comfortably disagree with that
Then you need to change your ways.

Now.

The news is...

Alright, if you haven't seen Bowling for Columbine, you should- not because I sorry for the kids that died and their parents that had to suffer because two teenagers didn't get attention... but because it shows a lot more about how america differs from, well, any where else in the world.

So who's read the paper lately? I don't have an actual paper-print one in front of me at the moment, but just a few days ago I read ( another) article about CT scans and how they're giving people cancer do to radiation... ( CT scans use X-rays that are "stronger" than a normal x-ray, they say this every three years or so)
Now, more or less, they numbers they used for comparison were the amount of radiation you get from a CT scan Vs. the amount you deal with LIVING near an old nuclear test site.

Now, a CT scan lasts about, oh i don't know, 5-10 minutes... compared to LIVING near a NUCLEAR test site...

Near is a very vague term, it could be miles and miles away. What their "data" shows, more or less, is that if you get 10 CT scans in your life you'll have been submitted to the same amount of radiation as the lowest end of people living near test sites. Lowest end. The general public is allowed, by law, to be submitted to twice the amount of radiation than the people one the list of " low symptoms", whereas radiation workers ( reactors, power plants etc.) are allowed 10 times as much as people on the "low symptoms" list...
Just from Cosmic radiation, we receive almost the amount that the people on the "low symptom" list received...by almost i mean a difference of about 5 Mrer a year....

Do you understand where I'm coming from?
For christ's sake, 5% of local water tests ( in the united states) per month are allowed to contain uranium. Fucking uranium. And on top of that, there's no limit as to how many tests can be done a month...

I've said all of this to make a point, american media does a pretty good job of making people scared to live. The supply the smallest amount of information possible, just enough for you to have a very vague idea of what's going on, just enough.

If you look at the "USA" section of the news compared to any other place, the top stories vary so much....
" Man accused of killing Dad with a machete" ( MS NBC news dec. 5th, 07 [article]) in the american front page vs. London ( evening standard dec.5th, 07) "Brighton becomes first city to ban rap music that offends gays" [article]
( for those of you that don't know, Brighton has a very high gay population)

Now which one makes you a little bothered? Do you think " I hope they don't band rap in my city" or " I hope someone doesn't loose it with me and kill me" ?
You understand what I'm saying.

American media is full of fear. Scandals and terrorism... oh noessss

There is a section on most american news paper sites dedicated to either terrorism or " the conflict in iraq"
MSNBC actually has both.

Some people argure that " Well he have more guns" or something along those lines...
but why do you think teens carry guns?
The gun itself signifies strength, and why do we have to seem strong?
To scare people... people we ourselves are afraid of.

Sure you can act tough and people might leave you alone, but it's all a fear based system.

Think about it some time.
That's all for now, I might add to this again later if it shows any popularity, I've got a lot more to say, but if no one is listening, then it's pointless, you know?

Anyway, thank you if you did indeed read this...
and carry what ever thoughts this provoked with you.

I see some girls that are.....

It's not just girls really, it's an awful lot of people.
Fake Tanner.
You know, the kind in the bottle, turns your skin orange...
It's purely for looks. People who go to tanning beds are a little different, because at least they don't get sunned burned as easily. So, generally speaking, tanning beds are understandable.
( I personally don't partake in either of the above...)

You've all seen the consumerist whores out there. You've been in a mall, or in a school or just run across one on the street. The people who 'must have' that pink sweater or those $60 jeans. I've personally walked into a store, ( although i couldn't tell you which one) and seen a T-shirt, average blue T-shirt, %100 cotton, just like the rest of them, for $50. 50 effin dollars!
Why would it be so expensive you ask?
Because it had about $0.03 worth of ink on it, of course, in the form of the company's logo, but none the less. A ( maybe) $3 piece of fabric with three cents worth of ink on it for $50.

This is where i find the trouble with the whole thing. There are enough people out there that want other people to know where they shop, and they want this so much they're willing to pay that much and more to advertise for "their" company.
It's insanity.

The only piece of clothing that I've ever bought for over, say, $30 are band shirts because, unlike clothing companies, bands actually DO need advertising. Their survival relies greatly on the clothes and CDs they sell, as well as the advertisement so they more people can buy tickets.
I'm not talking about Fall Out Boy of Lil' Jon hear either, I'm talking about smaller bands like Before the Solstice and Caspian ( Myspace!)

Makeup that doesn't match any of the rest of your skin showing.
People look like they've been making out with damn clowns half the time!
How is any of that attractive to such a mass population?
I don't understand this.

You know what I find attractive? People who are them selves.
I think girls with dread locks are amazing because A.) They know how to take care of themselves still ( dread locks take a good deal of care) while B.) they don't take care of themselves just to have society approve of them.

I understand that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but it's not really your eye if the only reason you see that way is because everyone else does.

For reference I've seen many things that are ...

If you somehow just stumbled upon this blog, keep reading,
Bookmark it, as long as you're not easily offended, that is.

I have lots of things to say about lots of things. The world lately has become sickening in a way that I can often barely stand. As a teenager you think " Well, this is what all teenagers go through" and that thought is heavily backed by your parents and teachers.

I know that throughout history, there have been some amazing voices in society ( bother american and foreign), and I notice more and more often that our generation is lacking one. With that said, I am not necessarily trying to be " that" voice, it would be a lot of work and great undertaking on my behalf, and it is something i would be willing to do, I just don't know that I really have the means to. I do, on the other hand hope that I can maybe change a few minds, help a few people out, and make individual's lives a little easier to live.

So, if there are situations in your life that are very troublesome and seem to have the same underlying "theme", then tell me about them.
I'll talk about it the best I can.
I know this doesn't seem very convincing seeing as I don't have much of an example, but for my first post, I would like to say this:

Think about your actions, know what you're doing.
I understand that in some situations there is no time to think, but do the best you can.

Everything is a process, everyone has a learning curve.
